Practical advice on brake system maintenance and fluid replacement.
Why does a brake caliper seize?
01 Brake fluid not replaced in time
The likelihood of seizing increases significantly if the brake fluid is not changed
on schedule. Because the fluid is hygroscopic, its moisture content rises over time,
and that moisture corrodes the pistons and cylinders.
02 Using the wrong brake fluid
If the fluid is too viscous, the piston does not return to its original position
after braking. Pistons made of polymer or composite materials may also swell after
contact with an unsuitable fluid.
03 What to do
Change the brake fluid on schedule. It is hygroscopic, so the amount of moisture in
it keeps increasing over time. This not only reduces braking efficiency but also
causes internal corrosion of the pistons.
